When you look at someone, really look at who they are. Not who they used to be. Not who you hope they'll be in the future. Take them at face value today. Don't give them attributes they don't have a chance in Hell of possessing. Don't imagine them to be something they' re not. This isn't fiction, it's your life story you're writing and the characters aren't being written by you.
